If you're doing more than just running a terminal / console or Relion GUI, you may want to investigate one of the full desktop session options such as Mate (or KDE). If you need to use EMAN2, source the script once x2go has connected. The setup script for EMAN2 (/public/EM/EMAN2_MPI/EMAN2/eman2.cshrc) causes x2go connections to be dropped on startup.

If you have your own linux server and root access, you can install the x2go server on it and connect to that directly, rather than going through hex.
